WSSD Intensive Phonemic Instruction Tutoring Positions
Intensive Phonemic Instruction Tutoring is for WSSD students entering first through eleventh grades who are eligible for Phonemic specific intervention based upon pre-determined criteria. All tutoring sessions occur during the ESY dates, four days a week, for four consecutive weeks. In this program students receive daily direct Phonemic instruction at the appropriate level; engage in independent reading; develop their writing, and receive related services as outlined in the Individual Education Plan.
Positions Available:
- Teachers certificated in special education, math, language arts, reading and/or elementary
Responsibilities:
- Provide tutoring services in reading, writing, and mathematics to identified students, per established schedule
- Progress Monitoring throughout the program and complete progress reports
Qualifications:
- Valid Pennsylvania Instructional I or II certificate in reading, special education, and/or reading specialist
- Training in evidence based and/or researched based curricu for phonemic awareness; Ortin-Gillingham or Wilson preferred
- Ability to relate and communicate effectively with students, colleagues, and parents
- Prior experience preferred
- Wallingford-Swarthmore School District employee preferred
Schedule:
- June 22 – July 16, 2026 (4 weeks); Monday through Thursday
- Up to 6 hours per day (8:00 AM - 2:PM Secondary; 8:30 - 2:30 Elementary); as determined by supervisor
- Note: There will be two mandatory orientation meetings prior to the start of the program, one is virtual and the other in person in June.
From June 22 through June 30, the $45.00 per hour rate will apply (based on 6 days of attendance). Due to a change in the CBA, July 1 through July 23, the $46.80 per hour rate will apply to the remaining 14 days).
